.about the band
Woodstock Mud began when teenage brothers & friends Michael, Ray, & Vince were driven into the garage by their parents who only asked for 5 minutes peace
& quiet. Their wish never came true, as the boys practiced, played & composed original songs day & night. Their parents didn't much care for the style, but the neighborhood kids were into it - and the band began to play at local parties. (Until the cops showed up anyway!)
As the boys improved & found their places in the band, their parents ended up having more influence than they expected. All the boys grew up in very musical homes, filled with the sounds of the 60's & 70's. The boys began to develop harmonies like Crosby, Stills & Nash, and were encouraged by family & friends to
pursue their unique sound. Because they each grew up during the same era, the music they so effortlessly bring to life is drawn from their own memories & experiences within those revolutionary times. Today Woodstock Mud brings heartfelt tributes to those legends of the day.
Like many uber excellent bands before them, Woodstock Mud has had a member or two come & go over the years - an occasional bass player, or a 3rd vocalist.
But the band really came together as a unit when Steven entered the scene. Now with the addition of the final piece of the puzzle, Chuck Townsend, an accomplished guitarist, bassist, vocalist and keyboard player, the extreme versatility that had been missing is now ready to rock! Each partner already had their own rock ‘n roll pedigree, and Steven and Chuck are no exception. Together, Woodstock Mud has forged something magical! Their intricate harmonies bringing to life timeless hits like "Time of the Season", "Ohio", "Woodstock", "Going up the Country", & "San Francisco" to name just a few.
Now The Most Requested Classic Rock Band in Southern California, Woodstock Mud captivates audiences with their distinct three-part harmonies, inspired song list and excellent musicianship. Their ever growing fan base continue to attend performance after performance to feel the music of their generation
alive once again. Woodstock Mud is interviewing labels for their 8th independent CD. Woodstock Mud will forever remain four together in song and one in spirit.

Michael grew up in a very musical home that was filled with the sounds of the most popular artists of the day and some of the most popular artists of all time, such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, & Johnny Cash. In his teens Michael began to learn & emulate the sounds of Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Neil Young and Elton John. The influence of these incredible artists drew Michael to his passion for music. Michael enhanced the depth & quality of his voice with professional lessons while he worked a day job, working for the day he could give back to music what it had given him. Today Michael enjoys performing the songs that give meaning and memories to so many around the world.
Ray, the youngest of 6 children, was introduced at a young age to the guitar by his older brother. Ray found he had extraordinary natural abilities with the instrument & began to learn songs by ear. He began learning to record, using a 4 Track Cassette Recorder, & wrote original songs as well. By the time he was in his early teens, he could play anything he wanted to. Today, Ray’s ability for matching hot guitar lick note for note makes him an audience favorite at every show! His incredible abilities are always commented upon and his talent for learning new songs so fast make him an irreplaceable part of Woodstock Mud! Ray also offers & contributes his skills for setting up, recording and editing shows for his band and for many others.
Steven was born into a family who held high regard for names like Sinatra, Basie, and Ella. From an early age, Steven took to singing vocal harmony, soaking up swing era sounds, doo-wop groups, folk ensembles, and anywhere good harmony singing could be found. Steven found his way into Woodstock Mud by becoming the third part harmony they had been looking for, and it was truly a stroke of good luck for them all. “I heard Mike and Ray were looking for a harmony singer. I had one listen to the two of them and was immediately hooked. There’s a musical and personal chemistry I love. We try to be as authentic as we can to the original artists, it’s great to be called the third voice of Woodstock Mud.”
Vince is the consummate classic rock drummer! With a career in music that began back in high school, Vince was instrumental in creating the sound that was to become Woodstock Mud. With an amazing ability to play every drum part just like the original artist, Vince wows crowds everywhere he performs. Vince is the older brother of our lead guitarist Ray Chavez, and is also skilled in bass & guitar as well as drums. Vince has also toured the country with the Young Americans, & has performed in the bands Sedation, Crystal, The Fathead Band & Thunder Vision! He is also the author of several screen plays and is currently writing a book. It's a pleasure to have such a creative & gifted musician in Woodstock Mud - we couldn't do it without him!

Chuck is into all kinds of music. He writes songs which he's been doing since he picked up a guitar. (Borrowing his sister's guitar and fingering chords incorrectly!) As much as Chuck loves playing guitar, he likes singing even more. Especially harmony. Chuck's roots are in 50's Rock-n-Roll, Rockabilly, 60's British Invasion, Soul, garage, folk music, 70's, & more obscure sounds. "The 80's supply lots of guilty pleasures like The Cure, Psychedelic Furs, & Midnight Oil - while the 90's...well I can't say because I was listening to a such a crazy variety!" says Chuck. All he knows is each new song he writes is a mini-adventure and he really doesn't have much control over the outcome. As much as he tries to 'plan' his songs, they always seem to have little minds of their own, kind of like children! Chuck's musical journey continues with Woodstock Mud!!
